The Team
Pearson Rundell is a partner-led firm. Every engagement is led directly by one of our principals.
Our principals spent their careers inside some of the most respected mechanical and energy engineering firms in New York City before founding Pearson Rundell. They bring a depth of experience — across hospitals, universities, government facilities, laboratories, and large commercial buildings — that is uncommon in a boutique practice. The firm exists because our clients deserve that level of experience on their projects directly.

Andre Pearson is a licensed Professional Engineer with over two decades of experience spanning consulting, facility ownership, and engineering leadership across the United States. His career encompasses the full project lifecycle — from MEP system design and construction administration to large-scale facilities operations, pharmaceutical and cleanroom HVAC, and strategic capital planning.
Andre began his engineering career at Joseph R. Loring & Associates, a long-established New York City MEP consulting firm, where he served as Assistant Group Leader in the Infrastructure Group and led engineering on multi-million dollar government projects for agencies including the New York City School Construction Authority (NYCSCA) and the Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS).
He subsequently joined WM Group Engineers, PC, as a Senior Associate, where he managed design drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for institutional and commercial projects across the city. At Smith Engineering, PLLC, he served as Principal and Director of Operations, leading strategic planning, business development, and engineering delivery.
Andre's experience on the facility owner side — including senior engineering leadership overseeing complex building operations at a major university campus — gives him a distinctive perspective on what owners actually need from their engineering partners. His hands-on background in pharmaceutical and cleanroom HVAC systems adds specialized depth in one of the most demanding segments of the built environment.

John Rundell is a licensed Professional Engineer with over two decades of experience in the design, commissioning, and optimization of mechanical and energy systems for complex, energy-intensive buildings. His work spans central thermal and power plants, HVAC design, building automation, and energy distribution infrastructure across hospitals, laboratories, universities, pharmaceutical facilities, and large commercial buildings.
John began his career at Schneider Electric and Schmidt and Stacy Consulting Engineers in Dallas before moving to New York in 2008 to join Buro Happold. He subsequently spent six years at WM Group Engineers, PC, where he served as Senior Associate, before joining Smith Engineering, PLLC, as Principal in 2016. Across these firms he led engineering on central plant and HVAC projects for clients including Merck, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Columbia University Medical Center, Penn State, Rutgers, Bristol Myers Squibb, Allergan, The Cooper Union, Longwood Medical Energy Center, and Related Hudson Yards.
His project work has included a 500,000 lb/hr rapid-start boiler at the Viola Philadelphia Cogeneration Facility, a 72,000-ton campus chilled water system, and central plant optimization, retro-commissioning, and operator training programs at major institutional and pharmaceutical campuses. John has helped clients access significant utility incentive funding through engineering-driven efficiency programs, with a focus on improvements achievable through better control strategies applied to existing infrastructure.
John teaches Energy Efficient Building Systems (ME435) as an Adjunct Professor at The Cooper Union and serves on ASHRAE Technical Committee 1.4, Control Theory and Application. He has authored and co-authored peer-reviewed work on condenser water optimization published by ASHRAE, and has presented on campus decarbonization at the International District Energy Association's Campus Energy Conference.
